Online-Journal Resources for Institutions in Low-Income Countries:

The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) enables not-for-profit organizations in low-income countries to access over 3750 online-journal titles in the biomedical and health fields. Due to support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and over 85 publishers, HINARI is now used by more than 2500 institutions in 113 countries. Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture (AGORA) was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and major publishers to "improve the quality and effectiveness of agricultural research, education, and training in low-income countries, and in turn, to improve food security." AGORA is now partnered with close to 40 publishers to provide institutions in 107 countries with access to 1278 online-journals in the food, agriculture, and environmental sciences fields. Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE) is "an international public-private consortium coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Yale University," and over 340 other publishers. OARE currently allows research and government organizations in 107 countries to access more than 1300 online-journal titles in various fields. In addition to its commitment to improve the quality of environmental science research conducted in low-income countries, OARE seeks to help its users address development issues such as human health.
