Boston University Institute of Dental Research and Education Dubai (BUIDRE) welcomed its inaugural class of residents July 1, 2008, in Dubai, according to Outlook, the eNewsletter of the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
BUIDRE is the first institution to offer postgraduate dental education in the region. Boston University Executive Vice President Joseph Mercurio and Dean ad interim Jeffrey Hutter of Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) as well as Mr. Khalid Malik, CEO of Tatweer; Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Deputy CEO of Tatweer; and Dr. Ayesha Adbulla, Senior Vice President of Dubai Healthcare City, attended the ceremony.
The Institute’s first class is comprised of 14 residents who will train in a variety of dental specialties, including endodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The training programs will be overseen by faculty of the BUGSDM. The Institute received accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in June.
Dubai Healthcare City is a medical free zone within the Emirate of Dubai in the UAE. Dubai Health Care City has been developed with the goal of becoming a world-class academic medical community, which will be developed around institutions such as the DUIDRE and a major university hospital. The campus will also contain a wellness center offering integrative medicine, private clinics, and branches of several international medical and pharmaceutical corporations that will be available in the medical community.
